Ghandi Sabarmati Ashram and Adalaj Step Well

Our first sightseeing visit was to the Ghandi Sabarmati Ashram situated on the Sabarmati riverbanks in Ahmedabad.  This ashram is now a museum containing a plethora of information and quotes from Mahatma Ghandi during his life in India.
Second on our itinerary was a visit to the Adalaj Step well.  This octagonal five storey step well was built in 1499 and  was used as a cultural, utilitarian and spiritual refuge.  It is believed that villagers came to this site to collect water, offer prayers to the deities carved into the walls and interact with one another in the cool shade of this octagonal underground structure.  Research suggests that air inside this step well is some 6 degrees cooler than the outside temperatures.
