It is no wonder that Udaipur is known as the ‘city of the lakes’ and is regarded as one of the most romantic cities in the world. Set amidst the Aravalli Ranges, the plethora of captivating lakes and mountainous hills makes for a picture-perfect backdrop to Udaipur city.
The first stop of the day was to admire the view of the beautiful Lake Palace (formerly known as Jag Niwas). Situated on the eastern side of Lake Pichola, this stunning 83 room luxury hotel was originally built in 1746 as a summer palace for the Maharana. As the hotel is completely surrounded by water, guests are transported to and fro the mainland by boat.
Second on our itinerary was a visit to the magnificent City Palace, which is located on the east bank of Lake Pichola. This gigantic complex was built on the top of a hill giving 3600 panoramic views of Udaipur city, Lake Pichola and the Lake Palace. The team were given a guided tour of the City Palace whilst admiring the intricate architecture and design.
Our final stop was a boat trip on the Fateh Sagar Lake to the beautiful Neru Park. This island garden is a real delight to the eyes, sitting softly on the calm waters of the Lake amidst the enchanting hills surrounding it. The park is approximately 41 acres in size, housing several beautiful fountains, a lily pond and an array of colourful flowers. The team spent time here sharing their experiences with friends from the Rotary Club of Udaipur whilst admiring the beautiful scenery.
Yet again, we have seen and experienced some of the most beautiful sights in the world, learnt many new things and made many new friends along the way.
