After an exciting and intense few days in Jaipur the team set off on a 5 hour drive to Agra to see one of the wonders of the world – The Taj Mahal. At the time of writing this blog we are approximately half way. The sun is shining bright, the sky is a crystal clear blue and the fields filled with bright yellow wild rapeseed. Large uninhabitable mountainous ranges fill the horizon and a foray of people litter the side of the road, some merely sat watching the world go by, living each day as it comes, others working hard to survive. From agriculture to the sale of cow dung and straw to insulate roofs, any type of job is undertaken here to earn a few Rupees.
Further down the road we stopped for a 15 minute comfort break where we purchased a bar of Toblerone, a cold coffee and shortbread – very English! A stretch of legs and a few throws of the Rugby ball intrigued some of the local people. Invited to join in, Anna gave the local people a few minutes of coaching on a sport which is a novelty in India. It was great to see that such a simple gesture produced such so much interest and so many smiles.Ben writing this blog post |
